Meeker Plumbing & Heating Inc., now in its fourth generation of Meekers, has a long history. Established initially as Slack Plumbing in 1858, it was renamed in 1928 by Ernest Meeker, who had been the sole proprietor of Slack Plumbing for many years. He was significantly supported by his wife, Elsie, who worked as a bookkeeper and secretary. Ernest, unfortunately, passed away in 1937 at the young age of 45, leaving Elsie with three kids to raise. She continued the business, cutting and threading pipe to help her employees. Ernest and Elsie's son, Jack, was soon able to step up to help his mother.
Jack married Audrey Lenharr in 1939, had two sons, and went off to war. Upon returning, he took over the plumbing company full-time, and their third son was born. The sons, Dan, David, and Paul, worked for their father when they came of age.
Upon Jack's retirement in 1987, Dan and Paul took over their family business. Dan and his wife Betty, who was a bookkeeper and secretary for many years, retired in March of 2012, leaving Paul to take over with his son Joshua, who has 17 years of experience in the plumbing business.
Jack passed away in 1990, and Paul fondly remembers working with many plumbers who got their start working for his father, many of whom have also passed. In an article published in The Middletown Journal on June 18, 1958, Jack said, "We've always been proud of the service we have given the folks in this area. One hundred years means something in reputation, I think," and grinned.
Today, Paul and Josh feel the same way and are proud to be following in their ancestors' footsteps. If you want more information about our services, call us at 513-423-5755 or send us an email, and we'll get back to you shortly.
